About the Role

Primary responsibilities involves establishing and leading a team of Compositors, ensuring the delivery of the Client's creative vision while maintaining a consistent technical approach.

This encompasses assessing creative and technical strategies for sequences, collaborating with the Producer on bids and schedules, and guiding the team to meet agreed timelines.

The position is intended to be based in our Port Melbourne Studios but will operate across both our Melbourne and Sydney locations.


Compositing:

Seamlessly integrate all elements and layers of a shot, independently solving technical and aesthetic challenges.
Maintain the overall look, colour balance, and quality for all shots to ensure uniformity in the finished work.
Establish and maintain a compositing workflow.
Team Supervision:

Build, lead, inspire, and mentor the VFX Team.

Project Scoping:

Interpret client briefs, evaluate project scopes, devise effective solutions, estimate completion time, and deliver on promises.
Schedule Management:

Collaborate with the Producer to prepare competitive bids, develop project plans and schedules, and oversee the process to meet delivery deadlines.

Communication:

Proactively communicate with Production and Leads regarding schedules, issues, and deadlines.

Creative Lead:

Evaluate creative and technical approaches for shots with the Client.
Create generic looks for other artists to apply.

Meeting Deadlines:

Maintain productivity while meeting deadlines and ensuring high-quality work.

Quality Control:

Ensure high-quality output by cross-checking all renders.

Requirements

Technical Competencies


  • Fluent in Nuke.

  • Quick learner of new software and techniques.

  • Ability to implement Pipeline improvements.

  • Familiarity with using Windows and Linux systems preferred.

  • Ability to write Nuke gizmos and/or plugins is a plus.

  • Basic knowledge of Maya is a plus.

  • Python experience is a plus.

  • Ideally, an understanding of how Unreal Engine technology can be applied to feature and television content creation.

Education / Experience:


  • At least 3 years of relevant professional VFX experience and at least a college-level diploma or higher in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or photography, or related field; OR at least 5 years of relevant professional VFX experience in lieu of education.

  • Previous experience in look development and sequence supervision is ideal.
